Nomads Nest, Fteli, Lesvos

We are in Lesvos, at the entrance to the Gulf of Yera, in a lush olive grove, close to the sea, in contact with a stand of pines and at an altitude of about 10 meters above sea level. A location of great natural beauty and minimal human intervention but at the same time easy access. All the above parameters (and several more) shape the conditions for one to choose to (co)experience the specific environment. At the same time, Lesvos has been one of the first places in Greece where it has attracted people from all over the world to come visit it and choose it as a place of work for a few months a year or even longer. These are digital nomads, whose community has expanded due to tele-working that has emerged as a necessity during the pandemic but is nothing new. What a digital nomad is looking for, even though he lives in different parts of the world and a fixed base is not a priority for his life, is the concept of home – the place of refuge. With these parameters began the design of a simple prismatic shell, with a pitched roof, made of reinforced concrete, with a total surface area of 50m2 and a total height of 5.70m, which can be accommodated, for as long as needed, by a digital nomad or a couple. On the ground floor there is a living area with a living room and a kitchen, while on a metal loft there is a work area, an open bedroom, and a bathroom. The design is completed by two concrete platforms and a pergola in the surrounding area.
